I don’t see the point of buying a dog when there are more deserving ones at the pound.

fuck pet stores

get your pets from shelters.

Even if you’re looking for a purebred animal, check shelters. There are plenty of purebred dogs and cats there, but they go fast. Bonus: The adult animals are probably already trained!

There are TONS of breed-specific rescues, too, if you’re really set on that. Most of them are listed on petfinder.

I agree that pet stores and puppy mills are terrible, but I know so many amazing breeders who strive to improve their specific breed. Sure, if you’re not looking to compete with your dog, go to a pet shelter. But those of us who plan on showing dogs, competing in agility, obedience, as well as many other venues of dog competition probably find it best to go to a breeder. That way, you always know the history of the parents, what the breeder expected from the litter, what the puppies from the litter are likely to achieve, their strong and weak points, possible temperaments, etc. Plus, a good breeder will test their dogs for all kinds of health problems. I’m sorry, I just feel really strongly about this.
